Week 9 NFL Predictions : Going In Depth

Written By: Logan Kaufman

** Win/Loss Record: 62 – 35 (64%)

** Record Against Spread: 52 – 44 (54%)

Broncos vs. Falcons

Spread: ATL – 4.0

The Broncos and the Falcons will start off the day tomorrow with a game in Atlanta.  Both teams are coming into this game with losing records although the Broncos are a bit closer to breaking even.  Both teams have caught fire lately with their last four games holding all of their wins throughout the season.  This game should be a very fun game to watch, but it will not necessarily be an offensive battle.  The Broncos have arguably one of the worst offenses in the league and the Atlanta Falcons are dominant when it comes to scoring.  I think that the Falcons will hold their ground as the favorites and this game won’t even be close.

Prediction: Falcons 41 – Broncos 17

Seahawks vs. Bills

Spread: SEA – 3.0

A couple of the most dominant teams from the NFC and AFC  will match up on Sunday and it will make for a very fun game to watch.  The 6 – 1 Seahawks will take on the 6-2 Bills in Buffalo. Despite the Bills’ strong record, both of their losses on the season have come in their last four games. The Seahawks also recorded their only loss this season in their last few games as they lost a shootout battle against the Cardinals. This game could definitely go either way but based on how each team has been playing as of late, the Seahawks will be able to escape with the win on the road.

Prediction: Seahawks 34 – Bills 21

Bears vs. Titans

Spread: TEN – 6.5

Just like the previous game, this game will feature two strong teams representing each conference. The Chicago Bears will represent the NFC and the Tennessee Titans will represent the AFC. Both teams are entering this game with five wins although the Bears have one extra loss compared to the Titans because they’ve played one more game. Both teams have also demonstrated lackluster play as of late, as they both are currently struggling with a two-game losing streak.  This game will also be very attention-grabbing, but I believe that the Titans will get the win at home.

Prediction: Titans 31 – Bears 27

Ravens vs. Colts

Spread: BAL – 1.5

Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens will take on Philip Rivers and the Indianapolis Colts this weekend. Both teams are currently 5 – 2 but the Ravens are easily the favorite in this game. The Ravens two losses on the season have come to the Steelers and the Chiefs, both of which are very good teams. The Colts cannot say the same as they have lost to two mediocre teams in the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Cleveland Browns. This game is just another game that could go either way, but I believe that the Ravens will be able to squeak out a win with a good game from Lamar Jackson.

Prediction: Ravens 27 – Colts 20

Panthers vs. Chiefs

Spread: KC – 10.0

The Carolina Panthers versus the Kansas City Chiefs brings me to the easiest game to predict this weekend. The Panthers have a losing record as they sit at 3-5, and the Chiefs have one of the best records in the league, showing off a 7-1 mark. The records speak for themselves but in addition to that, the game will be held in Kansas City. This is still not to mention that the Panthers are coming into this game with a three-game losing streak which is the opposite of the Chiefs three-game winning streak. This game will be just another easy win for the Kansas City Chiefs.

Prediction: Chiefs 36 – Panthers 17

Lions vs. Vikings

Spread: MIN – 3.5

The Detroit Lions versus the Minnesota Vikings could go one of two ways. Both of the teams that will be matching up in this game are very inconsistent and they have shown great team play as well as horrible team play. Despite the two teams having a losing record, this game should be very exciting if both teams show up with their best offensive power. However, I do not picture this happening because the Lions have been cold as of late which will not help them to defeat the extremely hot Vikings, who recently beat the even hotter Packers.

Prediction: Vikings 38 – Lions 21

Giants vs. Washington

Spread: WSH – 2.5

A battle between two of the worst teams in the NFC will take place this Sunday as the New York Giants take on the Washington football team. Both of the teams can relate in the way they are each far behind a .500 record. The only exciting factor in this game will be Daniel Jones. Although the Giants have disappointed throughout the season, Daniel Jones has shown that he can be even more of a franchise quarterback than everyone expected coming into this season. I think that after the Giant’s sad loss to the Buccaneers last week, they will Rebound with a dominant win over the Washington football team.

Prediction: Giants 28 – Washington 24

Jaguars vs. Texans

Spread: HOU – 7.0

The finale of the 1:00 games will be held in Jacksonville, Florida, as the Jacksonville Jaguars host the Houston Texans. Each of the two teams have had their struggles this season and they both sit at a 1-6 record. The difference between the two teams is that the Jaguars have not won since the first week of play. Although Houston only has one win as well, that win came over Jacksonville 3 weeks ago. Once again, this is a toss-up game, but I believe Houston will take it in dominant fashion.

Prediction: Texans 31 – Jaguars 26

Raiders vs. Chargers

Spread: LV – 1.0

To start off the 4:00 games, the Las Vegas Raiders will take on the Los Angeles Chargers in Los Angeles. The Raiders currently have a 4-3 record and the Chargers have a 2-5 record.  I believe that the Raiders record is an accurate representation of how their season has gone,  but I believe that the Chargers record can allow you to misinterpret the strength of their team.  The Chargers have a losing record by far, but it also seems that they have found their quarterback for the future in Justin Herbert. I believe that Justin Herbert will lead the way to the Chargers taking the win at home.

Prediction: Chargers 27 – Raiders 23

Steelers vs. Cowboys

Spread: PIT – 14.5

The Steelers versus the Cowboys game is likely the second easiest game to pick this weekend and for good reason. The Steelers have become arguably the best team in the league this season and the Cowboys have been injury-plagued, leading them to be looked down upon. This game will not even be a contest and the Steelers will remain undefeated through 8 games.

Prediction: Steelers 41 – Cowboys 10

Dolphins vs. Cardinals

Spread: ARI – 6.0

The Miami Dolphins will take on the Arizona Cardinals in Glendale, Arizona this Sunday.  Both teams have been able to work to a winning record, as they each have defied preseason expectations. Each of the two teams also entered this game hot, with 3 game winning streaks.  I think the deciding factor in this game will be whether or not the Cardinals can capitalize on their extra week of rest. I do believe that they can do so and I think that Kyler Murray will have a great game, leading Arizona to a good win against Miami.

Prediction: Cardinals 38 – Dolphins 27

Saints vs. Buccaneers

Spread: TB – 4.0

The nightcap this week will feature Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints taking on  Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. This is definitely going to be the most interesting game of the week as it is a battle for the top of the NFC South. Both teams have been hot lately but hot is an understatement for these Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Buccaneers have found their best team as Tom Brady has led them to three consecutive wins. The Saints are also on a good winning streak as they have won their last four games, but none of those wins came by more than six points. I think that Tom Brady will be able to successfully lead the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to a good team win over the New Orleans Saints as they extend their division lead.

Prediction: Buccaneers 34 – Saints 23

Patriots vs. Jets

Spread: NE – 9.5

The final game of the week will take place in East Rutherford as the New England Patriots travel to MetLife Stadium to take on the winless New York Jets. Both of these teams have disappointed this season and that’s what could make this game a little bit more interesting than anticipated. The Patriots are off to arguably their worst start in the last decade and the Jets remain the only winless team in the NFL. I do not think this game will change that for the Jets and I believe that the Patriots will be able to take them down in East Rutherford.

Prediction: Patriots 31 – Jets 21
